THE ACADIAN PYRAMIDS

In August 2008, Mr Gordon R Greeno  deposited a two page text entitled "The Acadian Pyramids" at Grand-Pré National Historic Site. It is with his permission that we are posting it on our web site.

Mr Greeno is 76 years old and was born in Mount Denson (Hants County). He worked as a labourer for about 10 years before joining the Army. He left school after Grade 8 but was able to upgrade his education during his years in the Army. As he indicates in his text, he worked on the dykes in Hants, Kings and Annapolis Counties from 1950 to 1956. Intimately familiar with the hard work and technical skills involved in dyke-building, he has profound admiration for what the Acadians accomplished in the 1600s. He considers the dykes built by the Acadians more impressive than the pyramids of Egypt.

He was a member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force and was stationed on the Gaza Strip. He worked for the government for a number years after retiring from the Army. He currently works as a Commissionaire in Wolfville.
